About the Songs

Sweet Innocence reflects on the days as a teenager when we talked about life and hadd “deep” conversations and how precious those times were but how they are behind us now. I cherish those friendships and visit the memories often. Everything seemed so important and critical and yet life moved us on to our own separate ways

I'm So Glad it Was You is a remembrance of my first sensual experience, and how, while it could have been very different with a different person, how gentle and loving he was, this beautiful person.

Mercy Ann is a reflection on the excruciating period of time during which my Mom was in the hospital and dying, from a 3rd person point of view.

Laughing at Rembrandt is a song about a time long ago, in my early 20s, visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a friend and two friends of hers. One of the guys and I were flirting and having a great time together. I never saw him again, and I don't even remember who he was. But it elicited a great memory.

Castle Rock describes a very special place we would go to watch the sunrise and share dreams, and maybe ingest a thing or two that made it all vibrant

550 is about my first serious relationship that was marked by addiction. After we broke up, I got sober and started seeing men only, and we were out of each other’s lives for at least 20 years. She actually went on to eventually get sober and we reunited on Facebook, catching each other up on our lives over the previous 25 years. She was my first true love, and while I had gone on to get married to a man, I never lost the profound love I had for her, and wanted to acknowledge that nothing will ever take our love for each other away.

You Made Me Fall was written after hearing that someone I had loved and wanted to marry, but who broke up with me, was 30 years later telling our friends that I was the love of his life. Hearing that pissed me off because it had taken me so long to get over him and he had broken my heart.

Run Run Run is an angry expression to someone who kept running away from our love, to the comfort of relationships that were “safe” and decades later told mutual friends that I was the “love of his life.” This is a song that goes together with a sweeter version of the same relationship, called “You Made Me Fall."

Coat of Many Colors is a love letter to Santa Cruz, CA upon leaving to live somewhere else. I lived there from my mid-20s to my mid-30s, and you can imagine how layered that time was with change, darkness, hope, and hurt. Santa Cruz became my soul's sweet place.

Happier Times  was inspired by someone I know's story of an incident on a road trip. The only things I kept from the story was his bulldog in the truck.

Only Love Remains is the understanding that when all is said and done, there is only love

I'm Ready is the song I wrote the day before my wedding in 1999, as my vows for the ceremony. I sang it acapella. I recorded it in 2024 fully orchestrated. I married at 42 years old for the first time, never having felt it was the right person before.
